Purple Olive Oysterling Sarcomyxa serotina Liquid Culture (LC)
We know how frustrating it is to buy a mushroom culture online… only to wait weeks and wonder if it will ever fruit.
You deserve a strain that actually performs.
That’s why we share the same production-tested cultures we trust on our own farm, so you can grow mushrooms with confidence.
Our Purple Olive Oysterling Liquid Culture is made with our Appalachian spring water and our farm’s raw honey, creating a clean, living culture ready to jump into grain.
Every syringe is made to order using only our most vigorous strains, so you receive fresh, active mycelium that’s ready to grow.
This culture was originally found in our region between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains.
We’ve carefully maintained and refined it through years of commercial production here in Southwest Virginia, and we stand fully behind its viability and performance.
Purple Olive Oysterling is a fast colonizer that quickly moves through grain and bulk substrates. It’s in the same Family as Oysters but it’s not a Pleurotus.
You can expect a fully pinning bag about a month after inoculating a bulk substrate a whole month faster then our regular olive oysterling. They do seem to take a couple weeks to harvest and I’ve been experimenting but seems like they like it drier than true oysters and preform and yield the best outside of the bag completely.
The mushrooms have a beautiful appearance with rich purple-olive tones and thick, meaty stems that are similar to King oysters. I like to call it the “dark meat” chicken of the woods.
Color can shift depending on temperature, often producing deeper hues in cooler conditions.
It’s a favorite at our farm stands and with the chefs we work with because of its texture, flavor, and reliability.
This strain fruits across a wide range of conditions and seasons, making it an excellent choice for both new growers and experienced cultivators. Olive Oysterling is traditionally a cool season variety and is the last foraged mushrooms of the season in Appalachia.
Each 10 mL syringe contains enough liquid culture to inoculate a master jar or a grain bag.
Using more LC will generally speed colonization within reason, helping you move from inoculation to harvest even faster.
If you’ve been searching for a dependable but different and eye catching “oyster” strain that grows quickly and produces beautiful, meaty mushrooms, this is the same culture we trust on our farm.
Now it’s ready for yours. 🍄
Common Names: Olive oysterling, late fall oyster, Mukitake (Japan), purple-brown oyster.
